Victory
Over Incest Changes Everyone. It has unquestionably
changed me and the lives of at least three others I know. Each accomplishment
for VOICE is a kiss from God, an affirmation of His plan, and more strength to
move forward.
Nothing
about what we do is easy. All any of us ever want to do is talk about what no
one wants to listen to. It’s not easy being constantly given the glazed-over
look, hearing “yuck!” or seeing someone excuse themselves, and quickly, after
you circle the topic. It’s not easy leaving flyers out for people only to come
in the next morning and see that they are exactly as you left them. It’s not
easy to spend hundreds of dollars printing ad’s for a class or series of
classes which will yield less than 10 participants total. It’s not easy feeling
like you are the only one(s) willing to fight for our children.
It's all
time consuming, extremely detail-oriented, and often tedious. We walk the line
between frustrating and functional constantly. But for me, and those that I
surround myself with, it’s a labor of love. It's a deep rooted love, the kind
where part of us would be missing if it were ever carved out. It's love for the
children of this world, love for the Father who has called us to this position,
and love for the entire movement and all it stands for.
It would be
easy to be discouraged by all the details; the low attendance at workshops, and
the constant battle with technology. It would be really easy to throw in the
towel and go home and make it someone else’s problem. It would all be really
easy.
So why
don’t we? Why don’t we just give up? Wouldn’t it make more sense to spend our
time, energy, and efforts doing something that yielded more success?
But yet, we
don’t give up. We’ll never give
up. There’s a fire lit in each of us. A fire lit to Break the Silence of Child
Sexual Abuse. To stand in the gap for children that are being abused and for
adults that were never given the opportunity to heal from abuse.
In me, and
many that I work with, this fire inside us is an eternal flame. It burns day in
and day out for us to heal from our own abuse, to help others heal from their
abuse, and to prevent abuse from occurring. It burns to remind us that each
child is precious, and they all deserve to be protected.
So while
it’s easy to get caught up in the day to day strife and want to quit, I remind
myself that our movement is anointed, our struggles ordained, and our hearts
forever changed by this movement.
Victory
Over Incest Changes Everyone. Maybe it hasn’t yet.
Maybe it hasn’t extended beyond the walls of our office or the walls of the
classrooms we teach in. But one day, it will. Victory Over Incest
will Change Everyone.
